What are the advantages of the new Sharp OnEnergy™ solar system?
The OnEnergy system uses a simplified, flexible mounting system to improve both the speed of installation and aesthetics. Each system can be easily configured online and shipped to you all at once. This innovative new solution for residential and light commercial installations uses a shared rail system that requires 30% less rail than conventional systems. That means fewer rail lines to draw and less mounting hardware to install. The steel mounting hardware is treated with SuperDyma®, a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, scratch-resistant alloy coating designed especially for outdoor exposure.

 

What is the OnEnergy system's track record?
The OnEnergy system is one of the most widely used installations in the world today. In Japan alone, there are 100 megawatts created from the 25,000 OnEnergy system installations. In fact, the Sharp Kameyama manufacturing plant utilizes the OnEnergy system, making the 5.2 megawatt system the largest solar rooftop installation in the world.

 

What types of roofs are compatible with OnEnergy?
The OnEnergy system can now be installed on just about any roof including asphalt shingles, curved Spanish tiles and concrete tiles.

 

What are the clearance issues?
The low-profile OnEnergy system rests 1 inch off the asphalt roof, 2-1/2 inches with flashing.

 

What is covered under the warranty?
Sharp backs our solar modules with a 25-year limited warranty, and the racking system in OnEnergy has a 10-year limited warranty. That’s years and years of no worries with a warranty from Sharp, the company that’s been in the solar business for 50 years.

 

How are roof penetrations sealed?
Adjustable sliders are equipped with butyl sealant pads that instantly create a waterproof seal
at all roof penetrations. Installers may also use an optional black silicone caulking for
additional protection.

 

How does OnEnergy work in a reroof or new roof situation?
New roofs are an even easier installation since they allow roofers a bare deck to course shingles around flashings.

 

Why is this system made of steel instead of aluminum?
The mounting hardware is made of steel because it’s structurally superior to aluminum. The SuperDyma® coating allows six times more corrosion resistance than galvanized steel and is so effective, it’s used throughout the automotive industry. Lastly, since steel expands only half as much as aluminum, it alleviates expansion and contraction noises.

 

Training

Why does Sharp require Solar Installation training?
Proper installation of Sharp solar electric systems requires a thorough understanding of solar principles, components, capabilities, and practical considerations like wiring and mounting hardware. In order to maintain high standards of product performance, safety and customer satisfaction, we train and certify contractors in all these areas before they may become part of Sharp's elite installation network.

 

Who should attend the training sessions?
The full 2-day course is required for all new installers of Sharp residential grid-tied systems. State-licensed contractors who complete the course and pass Sharp's comprehensive exam will receive formal certification for installations under warranty. Others may enroll but will not be certified.
 
What does the training cover?
The 2-day course is a blend of classroom discussion and hands-on installation experience on simulated rooftops at the Sharp Training Center. You'll follow a typical solar installation
step-by-step from specification to completion, and receive a CD and technical manual that will serve as a highly effective field reference. You'll be able to put your new skills to work immediately for residential grid-tie installations.

 

Day 1: A mixture of Sharp history, customer info, solar program basics, site assessment, system design, safety, and all system components.

 

Day 2: Detailing Sharp-specific mounting, tools, installation, inverter, operation, review and the exam.
 
When is training offered?

How much does the training cost?
The entire 2-day course is only $400, payable by check or credit card. Travel to the training center, food and lodging expenses are the responsibility of each student.
 
Where are Sharp's training centers located?
Sharp maintains training centers on both coasts: in the Los Angeles (Huntington Beach, CA) and New York City (Mahwah, NJ) areas.
